Ondo crisis: Jegede calls for calm, says Jimoh Ibrahim will lose ticket
Substituted governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, has called on his supporters who thronged the streets on Friday to protest his substitution,
to embrace peace.
The former Attorney General and Justice Commissioner, in a statement on Friday, said “the miscarriage of justice” was a temporary setback.
Thousands of his supporters and members of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party trooped out to the streets of Akure and set bonfires, to to protest Mr. Jegede’s replacement with Jimoh Ibrahim.
The substitution was done by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
“I passionately appeal to the people of Ondo state to embrace peace at this period which is one of the trying times for our democratic process which will soon pass away,” Mr. Jegede said.
“Let’s keep our eyes on the big day ahead as we continue our campaigns.”
He expressed optimism that the Appeal Court will correct the anomaly and restore his mandate.
“I am confident the Appeal Court will do the needful in addressing this anomaly,” he said.
