Hospital for Humanity, a non-profit healthcare provider, has commenced free surgical operation for about 200 Nigerian children suffering heart defects. This was disclosed during a media briefing held by the
organisation on Thursday in Abuja.
Myna Shegog, the group’s director, said the group is carrying out the exercise as part of its Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgical Initiative.
“The aim of the organisation is to provide opportunity for children to live a normal life,” Ms. Shegog said.
“We are providing this surgery to these children because it is very expensive to carry out such operations in the hospitals even in the United States.”
“Most of their parents cannot afford such surgery. We are here to give hope to the children and to make them live their normal lives again.”
Ms. Shegog said the organisation has successfully carried out free surgical operation on no fewer than 40 children within the last few years.
Hospital for Humanity “has carried out lifesaving heart surgery on 40 children in partnership with National Hospital Abuja and Jos University Teaching Hospital.”
