A three-year-old boy has died after he was knocked down by a  vehicle  on a farm in Fife. Stuart Nelson died in the accident on Cuttlehill Farm in the village of Crossgates shortly after 5pm on Tuesday. A close relative said the boy, who recently had his third birthday, died in a “freak” accident when he was hit by a reversing forklift truck. The relative, who did not
want to be named, added: "It's very early to say what they'll be doing as a family. As far as I'm aware it's just a tragic accident.
"From what I've been told, there's been an accident with a forklift where it has backed up and the child has come round the corner in the blind spot. It's just one of those freak things.”
The beef farm is understood to be owned by the boy’s grandfather David Nelson. His father and mother, Richard and Linzi, are understood to live on the farm.
The child died at the scene of the incident and police are investigating the circumstances. A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Fife are investigating after a child was killed during a collision on a farm in Fife.
"The incident happened around 5.10pm on Tuesday February 14 at a property in Crossgates.
"A three-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries after he was involved in a collision with a farm vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Liz Beattie, the local community council vice-chairman, said the family was highly thought of and respected in the community.
