Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets lose again

Nigeria U17 side, Golden Eaglets, on Thursday fought gamely but conceded a 1-0 penalty goal in their second match at the on -going U19 Suwon Continental Cup played at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.
The Eaglets lost their first match to England, 1-8.

Right from the start, the Golden Eaglets were more matured in their approach and stoutly held their ground against far bigger and matured Iranians. Yet there were few chances in between and both teams ended the first half 0-0. The Eaglets started the second fast and furious and would have taken the lead in the 52nd minute; but striker Nazifi Yahaya failed to connect Chidera Ejuke’s pass across the face of the goal.
In the 77th minute, Reza Shekari converted from the spot kick after Goalkeeper Christian Nwoke tripped Reza Jafari. Two minutes later, the Eaglets got their own penalty but second half substitute, Onyemachi Sopuruchukwu, tamely hit the ball on Iranian goalkeeper Nima Mirzazad.
Thereafter, the Iranians defended their half in numbers as the match dragged to the end. With two losses in as many matches, the Golden Eaglets are rooted on the bottom of the four-team log without a point and would now face hosts, Korea on Saturday in their final match.
