Tanker Explosion Kills One In Kaduna, Razes Police Station

An eyewitness told Channels Television on Sunday that the fire was ignited from the explosion of the tanker after it fell near Danmagaji village in Zaria.
The fire was reported to have injured scores of people mainly travellers who scampered for safety and also destroyed not less than 15 vehicles before fire-fighters put out the inferno.
It was reported that
none of the suspects or Police officers in the station were affected. All the suspects in custody were evacuated to a safe and secured facility while the fire rages.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, visited the scene of the incident. He commended the DPO and other officers in the division for their prompt action to save lives of the suspects who were in detention when the fire started.
He said appropriate authorities would be adequately informed on the incident with a view to having temporary arrangement of a building that could serve as the Divisional Headquarters pending when the burnt down building would be rebuilt.
Eyewitness said the driver of the truck and his mate escaped death and flee the scene immediately the tanker fell.
Although emergency officials are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, residents of the area, however, attributed it to the bad condition of the portion of the road.
They said accidents of different kinds occur on regular basis in the area and called  on the government to urgently fix the bad road in order to reduce the frequency of accidents in the area.
