The 10 Most Stolen Cars In America [Infographic]

Various models of the Honda Accord have the undesirable reputation as America’s most stolen car of 2015. Data from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) reveals that a grand total of 707,758 vehicles were stolen across the country last year with 52,244 of them various models of the Accord.

Another Honda, the Civic, was the second most popular target for car thieves with 49,430 reported stolen. The NICB notes that older models of both vehicles accounted for the majority of thefts with newer versions less vulnerable due to improved anti-theft technology. Ford’s F-Series came a distant third behind the two Honda models with 29,396 stolen in 2015.As grim as the figures may seem, especially for Honda owners, it isn’t all doom and gloom. Even though the number of vehicles stolen last year increased three percent on 2014, car theft is generally on a downward curve. The introduction of new security technology like engine immobilizers and computer chip coded keys on newer vehicles has put a significant dent in car thieves’ aspirations.
