Kidnapped Islamic Cleric Regains Freedom

The Secretary General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, abubakar Khalid, told Channels Television that the cleric was released on Friday evening and that he was in good and stable condition. In his words: “We just secured the release of Shiekh Yusuf and we’re going to the JNI secretariat amidst tight security. He is in good condition and
details will be made available by tomorrow (Saturday)”. Sheikh Yususf was kidnapped on his way to Kaduna from Jos on Wednesday.
After he was taken, spokesman for the Kaduna Police command, Aliyu Usman, confirmed the incident to Channels Television.
Police in collaboration with other security agencies were doing everything possible to rescue the cleric and also arrest his abductors, he said.
The JNI had in an earlier statement signed by its Secretary General, Dr Khalid Abubakar, strongly condemned the unfortunate rise of kidnappings in Nigeria.
The group further urged governments at all levels to rise up and address increasing cases of such incidents.
In the statement the group also asked the government to consider palliative measures to cushion the economic hardship being experienced in the country, pointing out that illiteracy and corruption are predisposing factors to social vices in any organised setting.
“This is by no means trying to justify the rise of kidnapping in Nigeria, we also request that a serious national security sitting be convened with all security agencies and other stakeholders in attendance to harness national security policies on internal security management”.
