Two people died on Tuesday in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital Kinshasa after torrential rains caused flooding in some parts of the city.

The city’s wet season normally runs from October to May, and it is mostly of the impoverished districts of the capital that are hardest hit by flooding as they sit near the Ndjili and Matete tributaries of the giant Congo River. Tacky buildings characterize these zones, and anger has soared over the inability of the
government to respond to natural disasters.
Dozens of people have been dying each year owing to frequent flooding in the DRC. Global warming experts predict more and heavier rainfall in Central Africa in the next few decades, which could lead to an increase in floods in the region.
