Innocent grandfather, 65, wins £35,000 from police after he was arrested when wife's friend found child porn on his computer while searching for proof he was having an affair - but which was actually created by a VIRUS

John Maughan, 65, from County Durham, who was wrongly branded a paedophile after child pornography was found on his laptop, has been awarded £35,000 in damages from police. Mr Maughan (left) was working in Abu Dhabi when he was contacted by detectives ordering him to return home to the UK. Officers
wanted to quiz him about 609 images of child pornography which had been discovered on his laptop in Bishop Auckland. But it emerged the files were inadvertently downloaded when a friend of Mr Maughan's long-term partner Theresa McManners (pictured right with Mr Maughan) went to check the computer over mistaken claims he was having an affair. He claims he has lost his £100,000 a year job and that his home was vandalised when a brick was thrown through his window (inset).
