Thomas Mair, 53, allegedly killed the mother-of-two in a 'cowardly attack' outside her constituency surgery in Birstall, near Leeds. On the opening day of the trial, the court was told the killing was a 'planned murder for a political or ideological cause'. It is alleged Mair shot the politician at point blank range
with a .22 calibre handgun. This morning, Mrs Cox's mother and father, Jean and Gordon Leadbeater, were seen arriving at the London court ahead of the trial. They were joined by other family and friends, including Mrs Cox's sister Kim Leadbeater.
