The Vice Chancellor of Abuja University Laments Deplorable State Of Infrastructure

The vice chancellor, University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), Prof Michael Adikwu has decried what he described as the deplorable state of infrastructure of the university as befitting of an institution located in the federal capital territory, Abuja.

Calling for increased funding for the university, he said the institution deserves special attention especially in the area of infrastructural development, academic upgrade and the employment of requisite number of personnel.
Adikwu, who made the declaration in Abuja recently while receiving visiting members of senate committee on education led by Senator Barau Jibrin said, “The university is faced with so many developmental challenges which were attributable in large part to the fact that it did not benefit from any take-off grant from the federal government which could have ensured that physical structures and facilities were provided to support the expansion of academic activities.”
He further disclosed that presently the university has nine faculties and college of Health Sciences running a total of over 50 courses and that six of the faculties and the College of Health Sciences are now on the main campus. There are also a total of 56,000 students and a staff over 2,000 comprising academic, senior non-academic and junior staff in the service of the university.
He said ‘’at the inception of the present administration we embarked on the rehabilitation of physical facilities at both campuses under the NEEDS intervention programme to make learning more conducive. The effort has paid off as the structures now wear new look and could stand the test of time for a few more years to come.’’
